AVOB - Alternative Vision Of Business
The Power Management Company
The early years...
AVOB (Alternative Vision Of Business) was founded in 2009 by three computer engineers who had graduated from France's Ecole Centrale d'Electronique.Their research work on IT and sustainable resources lead them to creating AVOB.
R&D
Their research work focused on the impact of frequency changes on processors and they decided to confront the principles of Moore's Law with those of just-in-time (JIT) management. The idea was to help move to a computing model where the power will meet user’s needs and not exceed it to avoid waste.
Today
Today, AVOB develops softwares and services that enable companies to drastically reduce the energy bill and carbon footprint of their IT infrastructure.
AVOB: leader in France
In Q1 of 2010, AVOB became the leader in France for providing power management solutions for IT infrastructure with a very innovative technological solution. AVOB’s innovation also brought to market a unique business model where software license is not paid upfront but rather calculated on actual savings realized by customers.
Summer of 2010
In the summer of 2010, AVOB raised a round of Angel funding. The financing included other Silicon Valley executives and was destined to helping the company enter the US market.
The company is now headquartered in Silicon Valley and sees the US as it’s primary growth market moving forward.
AVOB now has developed strong partnerships with world leaders in the computing field such as McAfee©, Intel®, Microsoft®, Cisco™, AMD™.
Our goal
Alternative Vision Of Business means creating sustainable value through technological innovation.
Our Green IT vision
Alternative Vision Of Business aims at creating sustainable value by at last bringing concrete solutions to environmental issues.
Energy wastage
The general rules that governed the 20th century no longer apply.
Respect for Moore's Law and the idea of inexhaustible energy resources have produced energy-guzzling policies and practices in all areas of activity.
Firms' ICT and computing activities perfectly reflect this state of affairs:
The electrical consumption ICT represents 13% of total consumption and is growing by 10% per year*
A desktop computer left on 24 hours a day uses from 600 KWH to 1300 KWH a year**
This represents an electricity cost of over 100 € per year.
The energy consumption of a PC depends on its calculating power and the frequency of the processor's systems clock.
Over 50% of users admit they never turn off their PC.
"Screensaver" mode uses a considerable amount of energy.
(*)Figures from a French interministerial report (ICT and sustainable development, March 2009).
(**)Figure based on a PC with a consumption of 70W-150W per hour.
Reasons given for not turning off the computer:
44 % say this is company procedure.
20 % say it takes too much time.
AVOB's approach
Our three-stage assistance procedure enables firms to instantly integrate sustainable development into day to day operations.

The stakes for Europe and the planet...
There are 20 million computers in French companies and 600 million worldwide.
AVOB is part of the worldwide Climate Savers Computing Initiative. The latter, an integrated part of the WWF™, aims at reducing CO2 emissions from computers by 54 million tonnes per year.
This global reduction is the equivalent of the annual greenhous gas emissions of 11 million cars !
In France, the potental saving for companies amounts to about a Terawatt per year, or approximately 600 million €.
This is the equivalent of 4 power stations such as that at Porcheville, or about 75 000 tonnes of CO2 emissions (according to the ACV-DRD study).
We also participate in the Energy Star programme, under the aegis of the European Union Energy and Transport Directorate at the European Commission. This programme aims to regulate and encourage optimal supply parameters for computer equipment.
